Impact of the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union’s strikes
The following strikes started 15.2.2023 in Finland:
- 15.2. – until further notice Stevedoring industry strike
- 15.2. – 21.2. Trucking industry strike
- 15.2. – 21.2. Tanker and oil products industry strike
- 15.2. – 22.2. Terminal sector strike
The strikes has the following impact on Finland’s foreign trade and cargo transportation:
The stevedoring strike significantly reduces the transport capacity to reach Finland by sea. In ocean freight containers are not handled in Finnish ports, which results in stoppage of import and export transport of full container loads (FCL) and groupage cargo (LCL).
Where possible, Hacklin seeks for special arrangement of compensatory transports by road using routes available.
However, the capacity is limited on all routes resulting in limited options for the international road transport. Transport companies may also apply strike surcharges to import and export loadings to and from Finland.
Strikes may also affect other transportation modes such as air freight. For the time being, air freight transportation continues normally, but due to the strike pickups and deliveries may experience delays.
As a consequence of the terminal sector strike additional delays in pickups and deliveries may occur.
Unfortunately transport schedules cannot be applied and delays and disruptions in shipping cannot be avoided.
