Operational Disruptions in Northern Europe

Important Customer Information
13.1.2026

Dear Customers,

Due to ongoing severe winter weather conditions in the greater Hamburg area and surrounding regions, we would like to provide you with the latest update on the impact to hinterland transport, port operations, and your transport processes.

1. Current Weather Situation

Persistent winter conditions continue to affect Northern Europe, with snow, black ice, and frost causing significant operational challenges. The German Weather Service (DWD) reports that snowfall and freezing temperatures remain in place, and road conditions are still difficult, leading to ongoing disruptions in transport.

2. Impact on Truck Traffic and Terminal Access

Deliveries to container terminals in Hamburg remain severely restricted, and in some cases suspended.

Reduced truck capacity for LCL and FCL loads continues, and disruptions to maritime and hinterland traffic are expected to persist throughout this week.

This results in:

• Delays and extended handling times
• Limited time slots for deliveries and pickups

Please plan for longer lead times and coordinate transports with us in advance.

3. Hamburg Terminals (HHLA & Eurogate)

HHLA terminals are operational but under significant restrictions due to frozen switches and impaired infrastructure, especially in the port railway area.

Eurogate has not issued new official updates, but similar delays and operational limitations are expected.

Other Northern European ports (e.g., Rotterdam, Antwerp) are also reporting congestion and delays, which may further impact supply chains.

4. Current Operational Challenges in Key Ports

Hamburg: Severe congestion continues. Terminal shutdowns and capacity restrictions have led to prolonged waiting times and frequent berth omissions. Internal feeder shunting remains suspended, and backlog is increasing.

Rotterdam: Euromax Terminal will begin a TOS system upgrade on January 16, limiting feeder berth availability until at least January 20.

Additional costs and surcharges related to storage, terminal handling, and re-planning may apply and will not be covered by carriers.

We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in contact with terminal operators and partners to respond promptly to changes. Our customer service team will keep you informed of any updates affecting bookings and feeder connections.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact us.

Thank you for your understanding and continued cooperation.

Best regards,
Hacklin Logistics Team
